I have been privileged to serve the Jewish community not only in Cleveland but also nationally and internationally.  My commitment has grown over the years and most particularly during my retirement years.

I have had the good fortune to be associated with outstanding lay leaders and professionals throughout the Jewish community.  Their insight and inspiration encouraged me to help establish the Alvin, Lottie and Rachel Gray Center of Jewish Life and Learning at the Jewish Community Center of Cleveland.

In 1988, I was stricken with an illness that was swift and overwhelming with the specter of spending a total of ten months in hospitals.  Yet, the hospital stays were remarkably beneficial because of the opportunities to interact with other patients and to participate with fellow patients as a volunteer.  The sharing of my skills as a practicing attorney was superior to any other that I had experienced in public service.

What I learned from Hank Zucker and Sidney Vincent (of blessed memory) has helped me in my goal to do tzedakah and to make my own personal contribution to tikkun olam.

It is my sincere desire that my daughters will remember their origins, and they remember and help those who are disadvantaged.
